Speech and Language Assessment
A speech and language assessment explores how someone communicates – their strengths and challenges – to guide targeted, meaningful support. Every assessment is tailored to the person, using a neuro-affirming, strengths-based approach.
- A detailed interview with the individual, and/or their parent or caregiver, to explore developmental history and current concerns
- Observations in natural environments, such as home, school, workplace or community settings
- Standardised assessments where appropriate (common examples include CELF-5, WIAT-III, CTOPP-2, TOPL-2)
- Informal assessments to support identifying goals
Receptive and expressive language
How well a person understands the language they hear or read, and how well they put their own thoughts into words.
Speech Sounds and literacy
This might include how clearly speech sounds are produced, whether stuttering or fluency differences are present, and what’s happening in connected speech – or a detailed look at reading, spelling and writing.
Social communication
How a person uses language in real world interactions – conversation differences, communication styles, reading the room, repairing misunderstandings. Especially important for neurodivergent individuals to support building meaningful interactions and relationships.
