Speech and Language Assessment

A speech and language assessment explores how someone communicates – their strengths and challenges – to guide targeted, meaningful support. Every assessment is tailored to the person, using a neuro-affirming, strengths-based approach.

Receptive and expressive language

How well a person understands the language they hear or read, and how well they put their own thoughts into words.

Speech Sounds and literacy

This might include how clearly speech sounds are produced, whether stuttering or fluency differences are present, and what’s happening in connected speech – or a detailed look at reading, spelling and writing.

Social communication

How a person uses language in real world interactions – conversation differences, communication styles, reading the room, repairing misunderstandings. Especially important for neurodivergent individuals to support building meaningful interactions and relationships.

Funding and fees

Speech and language assessments are quoted from your intake session – scope and report depth depend on what we’re looking at. Sessions can be funded privately or via NDIS (self- and plan-managed). Medicare rebates may apply through a chronic disease management plan from your GP.

1.

Enquire

Tell us about the communication concerns and we’ll match you with the speech pathologist best suited to your needs.

2.

Intake session

A detailed conversation covering relevant history and current concerns, plus a discussion of what we’ll be looking at (e.g. speech sounds, language, literacy, or social communication).

3.

Assessment + report

Standardised testing where appropriate, informal assessment, and observation in relevant environments (home, school, work, or community). You’ll then receive a practical, personalised report and a feedback session to talk through the results and recommendations.
